Love in Exile

Grammy award-winning singer Arooj Aftab collaborates with jazz pianist Vijay Iyer and multi-instramentalist Shahzad Ismaily on this improvisatory album Love in Exile.

The trio’s debut album explores unique soundscapes, slowly unfolding haunting and beautiful songs which emerge with Arooj’s unique Urdu vocals over Vijay’s glimmering keyboard and Shahzad’s bass and synth sounds. These songs create an extraordinary sense of spaciousness, running up to 14 minutes long.

Arooj Aftab won a Grammy for Best Global Music Performance in 2022 with ‘Mohabbat’. Her music features in our playlists Alchemy and Sonic Gems.

We feature ‘Hasten Thi’ from Love in Exile in our playlist Sarah Picks.
