Mendelssohn

Award-winning ensemble Consone Quartet begin their series of Mendelssohn's complete string quartets, here with fresh interpretation of his '1823' quartet on gut strings.

Showcasing their love of Mendelssohn, Consone Quartet release the first in a series of Mendelssohn’s complete string quartets: Mendelssohn String Quartet in E flat major ‘1823’ & String Quartet in E flat major, Op. 44 No 3. Using editions from Mendelssohn’s day, including the scrupulously marked-up parts of German violinist and composer Ferdinand David (1810–1873), the Consone quartet set out a new interpretation of String Quartet in E flat major ‘1823’.

The award-winning young quartet create a unique warm sound with their use of gut strings as they explore one of Mendelssohn’s early works along with his penultimate quartet String Quartet in E flat major, Op.44 No.3. Consone quartet were the first period instrument string quartet to be selected as BBC New Generation Artists.
